ALA BREEDERS AWARD PROGRAM (BAP)

PURPOSE
To recognize the achievements of ALA members in breeding livebearing species and collect and convey information on successful breeding to fellow aquarists.

To encourage the propagation and preservation of the captive livebearer stock to deter continued exploitation of wild populations and help assure the survival of livebearing species threatened or endangered in their native habitats.

REQUIREMENTS
The member must submit a completed ALA BAP form for each species bred to the BAP Chairperson.

Spawns before membership in ALA will be accepted if attested to by any other ALA member in good standing or registered with a Breeder Award Program of another aquarium society. (Spawns registered with another society’s BAP program do not need to meet the ALA quantity requirements as long as they are from a period before the member joined the ALA and an ALA BAP form is completed).

Species are considered valid if listed by the California Academy of Sciences Catalog of Fishes, which can be found at this link: http://researcharchive.calacademy.org/research/ichthyology/catalog/fishcatmain.asp
For each species bred, the member must raise a minimum of SIX (6) fry to an age of sixty (60) days.

All awards are based upon cumulative totals. A species counts only once. If a subspecies is elevated to species status, it will be recognized if bred and reported to the BAP Chairman. If a species is found to be a subspecies or synonym of another fish, it will no longer count for future BAP credit but will be grandfathered for anyone that bred and turned in the species while it was listed as a valid species in the California Academy of Sciences Catalog of Fish.
